The Charm of a Material that Makes History
This magnificent door is located in Piazza Navona, Rome, in the Basilica of Sant’Agnese in Agone. Being a masterful and unmistakable work dating back to the late 17th century, it was restored in 2019 as part of an important project for the conservation and enhancement of the church. This monumental entrance has endured over four centuries, remaining in excellent condition despite the passage of time and exposure to weather factors. Every part of it tells a story of craftsmanship, ingenuity, and dedication—qualities that continue to inspire artisans and designers today.
An emblem of the extraordinary artisan skills of its time, the door is made of solid wood, with hinges, straps, and bolts in hand-forged wrought iron. The hardware, crafted with expertise and precision, is fixed with nails and embedded into the wood, ensuring solidity and durability over the centuries. Every detail was designed to blend aesthetics and functionality, maintaining a perfect balance between visual lightness and structural grandeur. Its harmonious proportions and attention to detail make it a true masterpiece, capable of captivating anyone who gazes upon it. Thanks to the extraordinary care in craftsmanship and the choice of the finest materials, the door boasts impeccable coplanarity—a concept still appreciated by the best designers today.
Why We Love Our Work
Wood, with its strength and ability to endure through the centuries without losing its beauty, is the true protagonist of this masterpiece. It is a timeless material that matures gracefully, acquiring charm and character. Its appearance changes slightly over the years, but its essence remains intact, testifying to the value of a natural and sustainable choice.
At Arbor, WE WORK WITH WOOD because every window and door should be like this door: beautiful, sturdy, functional, potentially unique, and renewable. Each of our projects is born from a passion for quality, with fine materials and meticulous craftsmanship that guarantee long-lasting products. Because wood is not just a material; it is a conscious choice, a tribute to elegance and sustainability.
Let’s remember: a wooden frame can become ancient, but never old.
